A 43-year-old man who drilled holes in a bathroom wall to record a nude teenage girl in the shower was sentenced to 18 months in jail Wednesday.

A woman discovered the videos of her 16-year-old daughter on Sylvain Lacroix’s computer in November 2012.

“It was done surreptitiously, which increases the element of evil behind the offence,” Justice David Wake ruled in an Ottawa courtroom.

Police seized the man’s computer and iPhone and found that Lacroix also “actively searched for preteen child pornography,” according to a report. Lacroix pleaded guilty to making and possessing child pornography.

The teenage girl said in a victim impact statement that while she believes Lacroix is “gross and creepy,” she is proud of herself for coming forward and now feels like the “strongest person in the world.” But she is still unable to use the particular shower where she was secretly filmed.

“No words can describe the disgusting feelings I have about you,” the teen wrote. “I thought I was destroyed, but really I found myself now.”

Lacroix was given an enhanced credit for his 187 days of pre-sentence custody. His remaining sentence is 10 months and 15 days. Before he was sentenced, Lacroix apologized and pledged to seek treatment.

“I am very remorseful,” he said. “I’ll be a better man.”
