Capt. Glen Engebretson

RCMP in BC website - Sept 4, 2012

August 27, 2012 marked day 1 for the trial of Comox resident Glenn David ENGEBRETSON, accused of Possession of Child Pornography. The 46 year old male was first arrested by members of the BC Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, assisted by members of the RCMP Comox Valley Detachment and Canadian Armed Forces Military Police, on April 7, 2010 after a Search Warrant had been granted for his residence.

Corporal VAN LAER, from the BC ICE unit, advises that this investigation was initiated in Europe and involved the identification of computers found in possession of child pornography material on a file sharing network.

This is a great example of the cooperation between police forces around the world, united in the fight against the production, distribution or possession of Child Sexual Abuse material says Corporal VAN LAER.

The trial has now been adjourned and is set to resume in October 2012. Police confirm that the examination of computer equipment seized from Mr. ENGEBRETSON did in fact contain child pornography material. Because the case is before the courts, police are not releasing any other details about this investigation.

Every chance we have to remind the public that the police are online, working against these terrible crimes against children, is important to us adds Corporal VAN LAER

While the Internet can be a scary place to navigate for parents and children alike, a number of simple safety steps can be taken to avoid common issues associated to Internet use.

The BC ICE unit encourages the public to take advantage of sites such as www.protectchildren.ca for information on Internet safety tailored for all age groups or www.cybertip.ca to report any illegal or suspicious online activity at  www.cybertip.ca.
