Police are providing information to all citizens of Nova Scotia, particularly those residing in Halifax Regional Municipality, about a sexual offender living in our community.

Forty-one-year-old Roger Edourd Mercier has been released from a federal penitentiary after serving his full sentence for sexual assault and failure to comply with an undertaking. Mercier has multiple convictions dating back to 2000 which include sex related offences. He has been professionally assessed as a high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner.

As part of his release, Mercier has been placed on a number of conditions, including having no contact with children under the age of 14. He is described as a white male, 5'5", 176 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.

Roger Edouard Mercier has served his full 25-month sentence at Dorchester Penitentiary in New Brunswick.

In 2008 he was convicted in Nova Scotia of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy, whom Mercier met by first befriending the boy's mother. At the time, Mercier was under orders to stay away from anyone under 16 — a fact he hadn't told the mother.

In 2007, he was convicted with the assault of a seven-year-old Dartmouth girl.

In 2002, Mercier was convicted of sexually assaulting five children in British Columbia. He was working as a school teacher in  and the children were in his Grade 5 class.

Mercier was acquitted of trying to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor handling the sex charges against him.
