Less than a week after a violent sexual offender was released in Edmonton, he's back behind bars on child pornography charges.

The Edmonton Police Service warned the public on Jan. 28 that 51-year-old Bruce Windsor was being released Feb. 1 after spending two years in jail for possessing and printing child pornography.

On Wednesday, police arrested Windsor at a downtown halfway house and charged him with the possession and production of child pornography as well as numerous breach of probation offences.

"Six days after his release, Bruce Windsor has been charged with the possession and production of child pornography," said police spokeswoman Clair Seyler.

The allegations against Windsor do not include contact with any local children said Seyler.

High risk offenders like Windsor are consistently monitored by the EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit, said Seyler, which was how officers became aware of his alleged offences.

Windsor is in custody at the Edmonton Remand Centre.
