A provincial court judge found sex offender David Jennings guilty
Tuesday of sexual interference of a person under 16 for fondling
a young boy.

Judge Stephen Harrison stayed a separate count of sexual assault because it arose from
the same event.

Jennings will be back in court on Feb. 28 to fix a date for sentencing.

Crown prosecutor Joel Gold declined to say whether the Crown will seek dangerous offender or long-term offender status for Jennings, who has prior related sexual offence convictions against children on his record.

He remains in custody.

A nine-year-old boy testified in court Monday by video appearance from another room in the courthouse.

In June last year he told a Kamloops RCMP member that “Uncle Dave,” a visitor to his house, fondled him. He also said Uncle Dave told him not to tell anyone and he wouldn’t get hurt.

In March 2012, the boy spotted Jennings’s picture in a newspaper clipping tacked to the wall of his social worker’s office. He told the social worker it was his Uncle Dave and inquired why it was on the wall.

That started the RCMP investigation against Jennings, who was already under watch as a sex offender living in this community. The RCMP issued a public warning in October 2011 about his presence in Kamloops.
