Notorious sex offender John Francis Dionne’s sentencing completed a busy week in Calgary courts.

Dionne, who kidnapped a 10-year-old girl from Deerfoot Mall in February 2011, was sentenced to nine years and declared a dangerous offender.

He was also ordered to undergo 10 years of community supervision following his sentence, meaning the 45-year-old Dionne will be under some form of watch well into his 60s.

Judge Allan Fradsham, who agreed with Crown prosecutor Gord Haight’s assertion a sentence of at least nine years was warranted, said he couldn’t punish Dionne further for what might have occurred.

Dionne dropped the victim off at an Airdrie McDonald’s restaurant after being handed a speeding ticket by a Mountie, who was unaware he had pulled over a kidnapper.
